San francisco: Artificial intelligence (AI) company OpenAI announced that its chatbot ChatGPT receives 2.5 billion requests daily from users around the world, with nearly 330 million of those requests from users based in the US.

According to Qatar News Agency, the vast majority of users rely on the free version of ChatGPT, with more than 500 million weekly active users. These numbers reflect the widespread popularity of ChatGPT, which was launched by OpenAI in 2022, and have since sparked a wave of growing interest in chatbots and AI.

These new figures indicate the rapid growth of ChatGPT. In December 2024, CEO Sam Altman previously said that users send more than a billion requests to ChatGPT daily.

According to web analytics firms, ChatGPT is now the fifth most visited website in the world, registering approximately 4.6 billion visits in May. It also attracted 100 million users in the first three months of its launch and now represents 62.5% of the AI tools market share.
