Arab League Chief, UN Envoy Discuss Developments on Sudan

Doha: Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Nabil Fahmy met today with United Nations Secretary-General's Personal Envoy for Sudan, Pekka Haavisto. The meeting discussed developments in Sudan and the outcomes of the recent visit to Khartoum by the Quintet Mechanism, which comprises the Arab League, the African Union, the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the European Union, and the United Nations, as well as ways to support peace and stability in Sudan.

According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions were centered around the efforts to address ongoing challenges in Sudan and to explore collaborative measures that could enhance peace initiatives. The recent visit by the Quintet Mechanism aimed at evaluating the current situation and proposing solutions that involve all stakeholders in Sudan.

The meeting underscored the importance of coordinated international efforts in facilitating dialogue and reconciliation among Sudanese parties. Both Fahmy and Haavisto emphasized the need for sustained engagement and support for Sudan to ensure a stable and peaceful future for the nation.
