Doha: The Arab League on Wednesday emphasized the significance of World Environment Day 2025 as a vital opportunity to reaffirm the collective commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development, aiming for a secure and prosperous future for the Arab region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Arab League released a statement marking the occasion, observed on June 5, under the theme “Ending Plastic Pollution Globally.” The statement underscored that plastic pollution is among the crucial issues being monitored by the Arab League General Secretariat.

In a related context, HE Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Economic Affairs Sector Ambassador Ali bin Ibrahim Al Malki noted that plastic pollution poses an environmental challenge necessitating coordinated regional and international efforts to mitigate its effects on the environment and public health.

He further stated that Arab countries, endowed with abundant natural and human resources, are well-positioned to play a significant role in adopting innovative and sustainable solutions to tackle this issue.
