Qatar: Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty discussed regional developments and efforts to contain current tensions in two separate phone calls today with his Omani counterpart, Badr bin Hamad Al-Busaidi, and his Bahraini counterpart, Abdul Latif bin Rashid Al-Zayani. They also exchanged assessments on ways to restore calm and stability to the region.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry stated that Abdelatty emphasized the priority of de-escalation during his conversation with his Omani counterpart. He highlighted the importance of avoiding actions that could exacerbate tensions and threaten regional security and stability. Abdelatty advocated for diplomatic efforts to address the root causes of the crisis and encouraged a return to negotiations between the United States and Iran, in line with the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, using it as a framework for addressing outstanding issues through dialogue.

The discussions also covered developments in the Strait of Hormuz and their implications for regional security and the global economy. Both sides underscored the importance of maintaining the security and safety of maritime navigation and ensuring the uninterrupted flow of trade and energy supplies.

In the call with his Bahraini counterpart, Abdelatty reaffirmed that the security of Bahrain and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) states is a fundamental aspect of Egyptian national security. He stressed the necessity to halt the ongoing escalation and avoid actions that might expand the confrontation's scope.
