French Prime Minister Warns of Rising 2027 Budget Deficit

Paris: French Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has proposed a 2027 national budget framework of 54 billion euros, while issuing a caution that the deficit could escalate to 6.5 percent of GDP unless immediate spending cuts are implemented.

According to Qatar News Agency, Lecornu emphasized the necessity of maintaining tax stability, which will require securing an additional 10 billion euros next year solely to service debt amid rising interest rates. This fiscal challenge highlights the urgent need for financial strategies to manage the country's debt effectively.

Without prompt intervention, social security costs are projected to surge by 22 billion euros, and local authority operational spending could increase by 7 billion euros. These potential rises in expenditures will impose strict constraints on parliament and future presidential candidates, underscoring the need for strategic financial planning to avert fiscal imbalance.
