The holy governorate of Karbala witnessed the influx of thousands of visitors, to commemorate the ceremonies of the day Arafat and Eid al-Adha at the shrine of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him), from Iraqis, Arabs and foreigners. The city is witnessing tight security measures with a high-level service alert by the Hussein and Abbasi holy shrines, in addition to government departments and thousands of volunteers. The Governor of Karbala, Nassif Jassim Al-Khattabi, expected, during a press conference attended by (NINA) correspondent, that the number of visitors during this visit will reach about four million from inside and outside Iraq. While the Iranian Foreign Ministry announced that 112,000 Iranian visitors went to Iraq through Mehran (Zarbatieh) border crossing during the past three days to participate in the Arafat ceremony.
