Japanese Stocks Retreat Following Weak US Data

Tokyo: Japanese stocks fell today amid weak US economic data that raised concerns about growth prospects in the world’s largest economy.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei index dropped by 0.1%, closing at 37,704.91 points, after falling as much as 0.6% earlier in the session. The broader Topix index also declined by 0.64% to 2,627.17 points.

Markets were impacted by a report from ADP Research, which showed a slowdown in US private-sector hiring, with employers adding the fewest jobs since March 2023. Additionally, the US services sector contracted for the first time in a year.
