Doha:Jungle Monarch claimed his first victory of the 2026-2027 local horse racing season by winning the Rowdat Rashid Cup at Al Rayyan Racecourse on Tuesday evening. This victory marked the seventh feature title of the campaign at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC).

According to Qatar News Agency, the nine-race meeting featured horses competing across various distances and categories, drawing a large crowd of owners, trainers, and jockeys. Jungle Monarch, owned by HE Mansour bin Ibrahim bin Saad Al Mahmoud, showcased an impressive performance in the ninth and feature race. The race, a 1,200-metre Thoroughbred handicap, was for horses aged three and above, rated 85-105. Ridden by Marco Casamento and trained by Jassim Al Ghazali, Jungle Monarch crossed the finish line three lengths ahead of his nearest rival.

The Dunkirk Lads, ridden by Jefferson Smith and trained by Hadi Al Ramzani, secured the runner-up position, while Sweet Fantastic, under the guidance of jockey Alberto Sanna and trainer Hamad Al Jehani, finished third.

In the opening race, Estithmar, ridden by Alberto Sanna, claimed a six-length victory for Injaaz Stud in a 1,900-metre Thoroughbred handicap. High Approval followed with a win in the second race, a 1,200-metre maiden for Thoroughbreds, with Arnaud de Lepine as the jockey. Kraar emerged victorious in the third race under Marco Casamento.

Alberto Sanna continued his success by guiding Mutheer Al Naif to victory in the fourth race, followed by another win with Jabahat in the fifth race. Yaqoob won the closely contested sixth race, while Hadi De Carrere triumphed in the seventh race under the partnership of Jassim Al Ghazali and Marco Casamento. The eighth race concluded with Damaah securing victory.

Jungle Monarch's triumph in the feature race concluded an evening that highlighted the depth of talent in Qatar's local racing circuit.
