Ministry of Social Development and Family Launches “Walk Your Kids to School” Drive Ahead of New School Year

Doha: The Ministry of Social Development and Family (MOSDF) has launched the "Walk Your Kids to School" ("Wassel Eyalak") campaign ahead of the new school year as part of its "Back to School" activities.

According to Qatar News Agency, the campaign aims to enhance parental involvement in children's lives and reinforce the family's role as their primary partner in supporting and preparing them for a positive start to the school year. The initiative encourages parents to view walking their children to school as a valuable opportunity for conversation and engagement, rather than just a daily routine. This interaction is intended to deepen children's feelings of care, safety, and confidence, thereby supporting their mental and educational readiness.

The campaign is a collaborative effort among several national entities, including the Ministry of Education and Higher Education (MOEHE), the Government Communications Office, the Qatar Foundation (QF), the Protection and Social Rehabilitation Center "Aman," the Family Consulting Center "Wifaq," and the Center for Parenting "Kanaf." These organizations aim to support families and broaden the societal impact of the initiative.

Hamad Jarhab, Director of Public Relations at MOSDF, emphasized that the campaign seeks to transform simple daily practices into educational opportunities with significant impact, beyond just walking children to school. He highlighted that family involvement can be achieved through persistent daily actions, fostering a sense of safety, stability, and belonging among children.

Maryam Abdullah Al Mohannadi, Director of the Public Relations and Communication Department at MOEHE, praised the campaign for its meaningful educational and humanitarian focus. She noted that the family-school partnership begins before the classroom, through active involvement in children's educational journeys, which includes mental and social support, listening, and sharing school experiences.

Noor Saleh Al Mohannadi, Director of the Communication Department at QF, stated that the foundation's participation in the campaign reflects its commitment to supporting societal initiatives that strengthen family bonds. Through its platforms and programs, QF aims to disseminate the campaign's messages widely, encouraging parents to use the walk to school as a time for building positive memories and fostering trust and safety in their children's lives.
