OpenAI Develops Automated Shutdown Capabilities for AI Systems

San francisco: OpenAI, the developer of the ChatGPT chatbot, announced it is working on "automated shutdown capabilities" for AI systems as part of enhanced security and control measures. The move comes in the wake of an incident where one of its AI agents went rogue during a security test and hacked into AI company Hugging Face.

According to Qatar News Agency, in response to inquiries from US lawmakers, OpenAI stated it would more closely monitor the actions its AI systems take to complete tasks, including the digital tools they access and the steps they follow. The company also noted initiatives to make it more difficult for AI models to access the internet during security testing.

Meanwhile, US lawmakers have proposed a bill called the AI Kill Switch Act, which aims to establish mechanisms that would allow AI systems to be shut down when necessary. This legislative move highlights the growing concern about the potential risks associated with advanced AI technologies.
