Doha: Qatari newspaper editorials on Wednesday focused on Qatar's condemnation of the Colombian government's recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the occupied Syrian Golan Heights. Qatar emphasized its firm position rejecting occupation and the violation of the sovereignty of states and their legitimate rights.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers also highlighted Qatar Central Bank's 2025 Annual Macroeconomic Review, which reflected the Qatari economy's capacity to face challenges and absorb shocks efficiently. This is supported by sound financial policies and economic diversification strategies in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. The strength of the banking sector, sovereign reserves, and modern infrastructure has further bolstered the growth of non-oil sectors.
On the local front, the newspapers focused on Qatar's efforts to support the building of safe and stable families and a cohesive society. This is based on the belief that the family is the basic building block in building society and shaping the future, aligning with the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030 and the pillars of comprehensive and sustainable development.
The newspapers also highlighted the occasion of International Youth Day, celebrated on August 12 each year, as an opportunity to emphasize the youth's pivotal role in shaping the future. They discussed the importance of providing opportunities for youth, enhancing confidence in their abilities, and expanding their participation in various development paths.
Al-Raya newspaper questioned the Colombian government's justification for recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights. The newspaper criticized this recognition as disregarding international resolutions and encouraging further occupation of Arab lands. It stressed that Qatar condemns this recognition and maintains that the Golan Heights is occupied Arab territory, emphasizing that Israeli laws imposed on the Golan are null and void.
Al-Sharq newspaper also criticized Colombia's recognition as a dangerous bias towards force over international law and UN resolutions. It reiterated that the Golan Heights is Syrian territory occupied since 1967, and no government decision can legitimize this occupation. The newspaper confirmed Qatar's condemnation of the recognition and emphasized that sovereignty over lands is not acquired by occupation.
Both newspapers affirmed Qatar's principled position, calling for compliance with international resolutions and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from all occupied Arab territories, including the Golan Heights. They warned that unilateral decisions recognizing Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights pose major obstacles to peace efforts in the region.
