New York:The State of Qatar took part in a high-level roundtable discussing early recovery efforts in Gaza, which was organized on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly.
According to Qatar News Agency, Her Excellency Minister of State for International Cooperation, Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, represented Qatar at the meeting. She highlighted Qatar's continued mediation efforts, in collaboration with Egypt, Turkiye, and the United States, to implement the comprehensive peace plan and its roadmap under UN Security Council Resolution 2803. The focus is on maintaining the ceasefire and meeting obligations under the plan's first phase, which includes delivering humanitarian aid and rehabilitating Gaza's infrastructure.
The Minister elaborated on the roadmap as an essential part of the peace plan, providing a framework for its second phase. This next step involves dismantling military capabilities, facilitating an Israeli withdrawal, deploying an international stabilization force, and empowering the National Committee for the Management of the Gaza Strip. She urged all parties to meet their obligations promptly to ease the Palestinians' suffering and foster conditions for sustainable recovery and lasting peace.
She underscored the inseparability of early recovery from addressing urgent humanitarian needs, noting Qatar's provision of approximately 30 million liters of fuel to Gaza over the past three years, as well as a recent agreement with the UN to supply an additional 1.3 million liters. Qatar's humanitarian efforts also extend to the healthcare sector, exemplified by the HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetics in Gaza.
The Minister reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to collaborate with partners like the United Nations, the Peace Council, and the Palestinian Authority to advance recovery and reconstruction efforts. These efforts aim to alleviate Palestinian suffering and support a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace.
Finally, she emphasized that recovery and reconstruction must contribute to the reunification of the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and Gaza, paving the way for realizing the Palestinian people's right to self-determination and the establishment of their independent state.
