Qatar Engages in Virtual Meeting to Discuss GCC Capital Market Initiatives

Doha: The State of Qatar participated in the 32nd meeting of the Committee of Heads of GCC Capital Market Authorities (or their representatives), held virtually on Monday. Representing Qatar at the meeting was HE Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Financial Markets Authority (QFMA), Dr. Tami bin Ahmed Al Binali.

According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting focused on several key topics, including the follow-up on the implementation of initiatives referred to the GCC Financial Markets (Exchanges) Committee. Updates on the Inter-Governmental Registration Regulations were also discussed, along with the minutes of the 25th meeting of the Working Group on the Strategy for Integrating Financial Markets in the GCC countries. Additionally, the meeting covered the minutes from the 27th to 30th meetings of the Working Group of Specialists in Communication and Investor Awareness at the Financial Market Regulators in the GCC countries.

The possibility of expanding the scope of the Gulf Smart Investor Award was also a topic of discussion. This award is organized annually as part of the "MALM" investment awareness program, which was launched by the financial market regulatory bodies in the GCC countries in 2020. The program is designed to boost investor awareness in the GCC, disseminate knowledge about investing fundamentals, highlight methods of fraud and risks, and emphasize the adoption of strategies to mitigate these risks.

The committee further reviewed the minutes of the twelfth meeting of the Working Group of Officials Responsible for Training and Studies at the Financial Market Regulators in the GCC countries. This review was part of the ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation and knowledge sharing among GCC financial market authorities.
