Doha: The Qatari sports community and golf enthusiasts are looking forward to Japan, which is hosting the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026 from Sept. 19 to Oct. 4. The Qatari national golf team aims to deliver outstanding performances and achieve commendable results that reflect the progress of Qatari sports, in general, and golf in particular in recent years. According to Qatar News Agency, the national team aims to build on its technical and physical readiness to achieve stronger results than at the 19th Asian Games in 2023, hosted in Hangzhou, China, while gaining valuable experience competing against Asia's top athletes. Aichi-Nagoya 2026 is a key benchmark for the Qatar Golf Association to evaluate its players against Asia's best and advance long-term preparations for future events, including the Doha 2030 Asian Games. Qatar's golf team will compete in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 in the men's individual and team events, with Saleh Al Kaabi, Ali Al Shahrani, and Daniil Sokolov, while Nada Rizwan will compete in the women's individual event. The Qatari delegation is led by Salman Al Khanji, while Dutch coach Bjorn Bastian oversees the team's technical aspects. The golf competitions will be held at Kasugai Country Club East Course in Aichi Prefecture from Sept. 30 to Oct. 3, featuring four events: men's individual, women's individual, men's team, and women's team. Golf events will be contested over four 18-hole rounds under the stroke play format, with medals awarded on Oct. 3. Qatar's national golf team recently completed an intensive preparation phase, including an overseas training camp in Rabat, Morocco, which ran through the end of August. The camp was held at the world-class Royal Golf Dar Es Salam. The training camp focused on improving fitness, tactical and mental readiness, and improving shot accuracy and adaptability to varying golf course conditions. For its Asian campaign, the Qatari national golf team relies on technical stability and the experience of Saleh Al Kaabi and Ali Al Shahrani. Both players p ossess extensive experience gained through participation in Gulf, Arab, and Asian championships, as well as the Qatar Masters. Secretary General of the Qatar Golf Association Fahad Al Naimi said that participation in Aichi-Nagoya 2026 is part of a comprehensive vision to advance the sport, including organizing local and international tournaments, expanding the player base, focusing on youth and junior categories, and providing a training environment that helps prepare new generations capable of representing Qatar in various international arenas. As preparations enter their final stage, the Kasugai course in Japan emerges as a highly anticipated new test for the Qatari national team players; the course's characteristics demand the utmost mental focus and technical consistency to navigate shifting weather conditions and the layout of the holes over the four days of competition. Qatar aims to turn its recent preparations and experience into a high-level performance and translate the benefits of the Morocco trai ning camp and previous continental experience into positive results. Such outcomes would bolster Qatar's standing in Asian golf and support its long-term build-up to Doha 2030.
