Doha: Qatari newspapers condemned in their Monday editorials the obstacles placed by the Israeli occupation on the efforts to end the war in Gaza, as well as its rejection on the commitments related to the roadmap aimed at completing the implementation of US President Donald Trump's comprehensive plan, undermining efforts to reach a just and lasting peace.
According to Qatar News Agency, the newspapers warned of the escalating Israeli occupation forces and settlers' attacks in the West Bank, and the threat they pose to peace and stability, in light of the continuation of illegal Israeli policies and practices. On the domestic front, newspapers highlighted the efforts made by the State of Qatar to protect the marine environment and promote its sustainability, through unifying the efforts of the concerned authorities, and implementing initiatives aimed at reducing pollution and supporting biodiversity.
For its part, Al-Raya newspaper said Israel's evasion of the commitment to end the conflict in Gaza is no longer subtle or hidden behind diplomatic statements. The newspaper pointed to the arrogance of the Israeli occupation government, which has reached the point where it openly rejects the roadmap aimed at completing the implementation of the US President's comprehensive plan to end the conflict in Gaza, which was endorsed by UN Security Council Resolution 2803, as well as Israel's rejection of the establishment of a Palestinian state.
In this regard, the newspaper highlighted the condemnation by the Foreign Ministers of the State of Qatar, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the United Arab Emirates, the Republic of Indonesia, the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the Republic of Turkiye, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the Arab Republic of Egypt, of the declared Israeli rejection. These actions and positions condemn Israel and make it responsible for obstructing efforts to bring peace to Gaza and the rest of the occupied Palestinian territory, including any resulting deterioration in the situation on the ground, and any disruption to efforts to end the war in Gaza, Al-Raya pointed out.
The newspaper stressed that the occupation reneges on all its commitments whenever a glimmer of hope appears to end the suffering of our people in Gaza. The occupation escalates every time in order to thwart any efforts to resolve the conflict, especially after the Palestinian factions accepted the roadmap to implement the US President's plan following the intervention of mediators, namely Qatar, Egypt, Turkey, the US, the High Representative for Gaza, and the Board of Peace.
Concluding its editorial, Al-Raya said that what is happening on the ground in Gaza is consistent with the policy of the extremist Israeli government in the West Bank, through accelerating settlement activity and besieging Palestinians in their homes by settler mobs in order to expel them and seize their homes and properties. What Israel is doing is organized terrorism carried out by the government with all its institutions, as well as by the settlers, the newspaper added.
In turn, Al-Sharq newspaper pointed out that the Israeli position on the peace process in Gaza is no longer just a disagreement over the details of a plan or political arrangements, but has become a direct challenge to any serious attempt to end the war and open the way for a new phase in the sector. The newspaper warned that the declared rejection of the roadmap aimed at completing the implementation of the comprehensive plan of the US President puts the future of these efforts to a real test.
The newspaper said the position of the State of Qatar and a number of Arab and Islamic countries confirms that Israel's rejection of the components of the plan undermines collective efforts aimed at ending the war and reaching a just and lasting peace.
Al-Sharq stressed that the success of any plan to end the war requires a clear commitment from all parties, but the greatest responsibility lies with the powers capable of influencing the course of events and enforcing respect for commitments. This highlights the importance of continued active US engagement to ensure the implementation of the plan and its associated roadmap, and to prevent it from becoming just another political initiative that encounters rejection and obstruction.
Concluding its editorial, Al-Sharq said lasting peace remains linked to addressing the root cause of the conflict, foremost among which is respecting the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and to establish their state in accordance with international law.
