French MPs re-elected, on Thursday, Yael Brun-Pivet as Speaker of the new National Assembly following the early legislative elections held on June 30 and July 7. The vote of the National Assembly MPs resulted in the selection of Yael Brun-Pivet from the presidential alliance as Speaker of the Assembly. After a vote that lasted for three rounds, Brun-Pivet obtained 220 votes from the MPs, compared to 207 votes for Jean Cassini from the left-wing alliance, while the candidate of the far-right National Rally obtained 141 votes. French President Emmanuel Macron had decided on June 10 to dissolve parliament and hold early legislative elections on June 30 and July 7, which did not produce a clear majority.
