Turkish Authorities Rescue 48 Illegal Immigrants Stranded in the Mediterranean

Crete: Turkish Directorate General for Maritime Affairs announced that a Turkish-flagged vessel had rescued 48 Sudanese migrants stranded in the Mediterranean Sea off the Greek island of Crete.

According to Qatar News Agency, the directorate revealed that the vessel, Donau Express II, conducted the rescue operation approximately 50 nautical miles south of Crete. The migrants had been adrift at sea for about three days, facing life-threatening situations due to adverse weather conditions.

The directorate reported that the crew of Donau Express II successfully brought the migrants aboard the vessel. Among those rescued were a woman and two children. The migrants were later transferred to the Greek Coast Guard for further assistance.
