Doha:According to Qatar News Agency, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has raised alarms regarding the rapidly worsening situation in northern Ethiopia. This concern follows recent events, including the seizure of airports in Mekelle, Axum, and Shire, along with increased fighting in and around the Tigray region, which has now extended to neighboring areas.

Guterres has urged all parties involved to exercise maximum restraint and reduce tensions immediately. He emphasized the importance of protecting civilians and ensuring that humanitarian partners have safe and unhindered access to those in need of assistance. Additionally, he cautioned against any actions that might lead to a broader and more destructive conflict.

The Secretary-General reaffirmed his support for the efforts of the African Union, particularly the initiatives led by former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, which aim to ease tensions and encourage the parties to re-engage in talks under the framework of the Pretoria Agreement.
