WHO Representative to Qatar Commends Doha’s Root-Cause Solution Approach to Humanitarian Crises

Doha: World Health Organization (WHO) Representative to the State of Qatar Dr. Rayana Bou Haka praised Doha's role in humanitarian response efforts. This commendation coincided with the World Humanitarian Day, highlighting Qatar's pioneering role in addressing the root causes of humanitarian crises through its diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving peace, resolving conflicts by peaceful means, and protecting lives.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Bou Haka emphasized that Qatar is not merely content with funding relief programs but is also actively engaged in creating innovative development solutions. The presence of the United Nations (UN) and its agencies in Qatar at the UN House in Doha signifies recognition of Qatar's leading efforts in tackling the root causes of crises before they escalate to necessitate humanitarian relief.

Dr. Bou Haka also noted that these agencies' work significantly contributes to the success of Qatari initiatives carried out in partnership with international organizations. Qatar's collaboration with UN agencies is noteworthy not only due to its support for emergency humanitarian responses and funding of long-term programs but also because of its crucial role in defusing conflicts and disputes.

The importance of Doha's approach lies in its ability to protect people and humanitarian workers from becoming victims of crises or being affected by them, added the WHO Representative to Qatar. In this context, UN agencies and humanitarian organizations commemorated World Humanitarian Day with a solidarity stand at the UN House in Doha, where participants reiterated their shared commitment to protect civilians and humanitarian workers, respect international humanitarian law, and ensure safe, sustained, unhindered, and timely humanitarian access.
