Geneva: The World Meteorological Organization (WMO) has announced a joint global seminar with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to be held from September 28 to 30 at ITU headquarters in Geneva. The focus of the seminar will be the utilization of radio spectrum for activities related to weather, climate, water, and the environment.

According to Qatar News Agency, this event will convene experts from both the meteorological and radiocommunication fields to evaluate current and future spectrum needs for applications in weather, climate, water, and related environmental areas. Discussions will center around preparations for the 2027 (WRC-27) and 2031 (WRC-31) World Radiocommunication Conferences, addressing associated regulatory, technical, and operational challenges. These include emerging trends like commercial data provision and cloud-based data processing.

Additionally, the seminar will serve as the platform for launching a new joint WMO-ITU handbook. This handbook will provide guidance on the use of radio spectrum in meteorology, covering aspects related to weather, climate, water, and environmental applications.
