Retired US General Mark Milley said that robots and other intelligent machines will make up nearly a third of the US Army in the next ten to fifteen years. Milley added in an interview with Axios that the number of human forces in the US Army will likely decrease with the move towards robotic systems. The US Air Force is seeking so-called "cooperative combat" aircraft that can fly alongside human pilots to gather intelligence, confuse the enemy and even blow up targets. The US Navy is also seeking to create a hybrid fleet, with automated surface and underwater vehicles that would increase the firepower of human forces, and among the pioneers in this field is Task Force 59 in the Middle East. Milley continued: 'The country that works to improve these technologies for military use will enjoy a very significant, and perhaps decisive, advantage in any armed conflict.'
