Armed Attack in Nigeria’s Plateau State Results in 24 Civilian Deaths

Plateau state: An armed attack erupted in a village in Nigeria's central Plateau state, killing 23 people, while another person later died in hospital, Limon Lian Eliya, a member of the local council representing the area, said Tuesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, village residents reported that armed men attacked the area, moving from house to house and killing residents with machetes. They said most of the victims were women and children.

Meanwhile, Alfred Alabo, a spokesman for the Plateau police, stated that officers had been deployed to the area to conduct the necessary investigations and would release their findings later.

The incident highlights ongoing insecurity in Plateau state, where tensions between farming communities and herders often escalate into reprisal violence, resulting in fatalities, displacement of residents, and homelessness.
