Qatar Center for the Blind Hosts Informative Lecture on Psychological Burnout

Doha: The Qatar Social and Cultural Center for the Blind (QSCCB) recently organized a lecture focused on psychological burnout, led by Dr. Tarek Al Aisawi, an Advisor to the Qatar Society for Rehabilitation of Special Needs (QSRSN). The event aimed to enhance understanding of burnout, its causes, symptoms, management strategies, and preventive measures.

According to Qatar News Agency, the lecture defined burnout as a condition characterized by physical, emotional, and mental exhaustion due to prolonged exposure to stress without adequate rest. Dr. Al Aisawi highlighted that burnout affects both psychological and physical aspects, with signs including chronic exhaustion, headaches, sleep disturbances, and diminished concentration.

Dr. Al Aisawi elaborated on symptoms indicative of burnout, such as persistent fatigue upon waking, disinterest in daily activities, feelings of worthlessness, a desire for isolation, and a perceived decline in task performance. He also discussed the distinction between normal fatigue, burnout, anxiety, and depression, emphasizing the need to recognize persistent symptoms and seek professional help when necessary.

The lecture proposed methods for dealing with burnout, starting with recognizing exhaustion, prioritizing sleep, maintaining a healthy lifestyle, setting boundaries in social and professional interactions, and avoiding the temptation to always be available.

Dr. Al Aisawi advised engaging in enjoyable activities daily, even briefly, alongside expressing emotions and confiding in trusted individuals. He encouraged participants to evaluate the sources of their stress and consider postponing or altering tasks to achieve a more balanced approach.
