Bessent emphasized the intention to navigate through the ongoing Iran conflict, hinting at the potential for future dialogues when Tehran shows readiness. He expressed confidence that initiatives like "Operation Economic Outcast," combined with trade blockades, will eventually compel Iran to consider a deal. Bessent pointed out the visible economic strain in Iran, with leadership acknowledging economic challenges publicly, highlighting currency devaluation and inflation as significant issues. Bessent reiterated the commitment to maintain economic pressure on Iran, suggesting a pivotal change might be forthcoming as G20 finance minis ters commenced discussions amidst global tensions rooted in warfare and trade. In remarks to reporters, Bessent expressed optimism about the productive dialogue already occurring at the summit. The Trump administration is actively seeking to persuade G20 nations to intensify economic pressure on Iran throughout the summit in Asheville, North Carolina. The meetings are overshadowed by recent hostilities between the US and Iran. European Union representatives have called for sustained diplomatic efforts to secure a peace agreement. Bessent is anticipated to engage in direct discussions with his counterparts during the summit's bilateral meetings, reiterating Washington's strategy to economically isolate Iran.
