GCC Welcomes Belgium’s Announcement to Recognize State of Palestine

Doha: The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) welcomed Tuesday Belgium’s announcement of its intention to recognize the State of Palestine. Secretary-General of the GCC Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi stated that this declaration reflects growing regional and international support for the two-state solution and embodies the principles and values enshrined in international charters and resolutions backing the Palestinian cause.

According to Qatar News Agency, Albudaiwi urged other nations to follow suit in recognizing the State of Palestine, calling for unified efforts to achieve a just and comprehensive peace based on the two-state solution, the Arab Peace Initiative, and international legitimacy resolutions.

Earlier today, Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prevot announced that Belgium will recognize the State of Palestine during the upcoming United Nations General Assembly meetings. In a post on his official account on the platform X, Prevot confirmed that Belgium will join the signatories of the New York Declaration, paving the way for the establishment of a two-state solution. He also emphasized that Belgium will impose strict sanctions on the Israeli government.
