Doha: Qatar Museums (QM) has announced the appointment of the new Board of ICOM Qatar, the country's National Committee of the International Council of Museums, for the 2026-2028 term.

According to Qatar News Agency, the newly appointed Board is chaired by HE Director of the National Museum of Qatar (NMoQ), Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Hamad Al-Thani. The Vice-Chair is Dr. Fatema Hassan Al Sulaiti, who is the Director of International Cooperation and Government Affairs at QM. Other board members include Shaikha Al Nassr, Director of the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA); Aisha Ghanem Al Attiya, Director of Cultural Diplomacy; Zeina Arida, Director of Mathaf: Arab Museum of Modern Art; Abdulla Al Naama, Director General of Msheireb Museums; and Saeed Ali Al Shawi, Director of Information Technology at QM.

Dr. Rashid Malheya, Head of International Relations at QM, has been appointed as Secretary, while Maryam Al Suwaidi, Head of Cash Management at QM, will serve as Treasurer. HE Chair of ICOM Qatar, Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Thani, expressed optimism about advancing the National Committee's work with the new board, emphasizing the role of museums in inspiring learning, fostering understanding, and enriching communities.

Vice-Chair Dr. Fatema Hassan Al Sulaiti highlighted ICOM Qatar's commitment to international cooperation and professional development for museum and heritage professionals, along with creating opportunities for knowledge exchange. She noted that the new leadership aims to broaden professional engagement and support initiatives that contribute to preserving, interpreting, and promoting cultural heritage. The board will collaborate with Qatar Museums, cultural institutions, government entities, and international partners to advance ICOM's mission.

During the 2026-2028 term, the board will focus on championing initiatives that support professional growth, encourage cross-sector collaboration, and enhance the impact of museums as spaces for learning, dialogue, and cultural exchange. ICOM Qatar serves as the National Committee representing museum professionals and institutions in Qatar, facilitating professional exchange and collaboration in line with international standards and best practices.
