Doha: The Qatar Basketball Federation (QBF) has officially announced the start of the men's general league for the 2026-27 sports season, set to tip off on October 10. The tournament will feature a competitive lineup of nine clubs: Al Khor, Al Rayyan, Qatar SC, Al Sadd, Al Gharafa, Al Ahli, Al Shamal, Al Wakrah, and Al Arabi.
According to Qatar News Agency, the league will be conducted in two stages, beginning with a single round-robin format from October 10 to November 9. Following this, the league will transition to a knockout format to determine the ultimate champion. The initial phase will consist of 36 matches across nine rounds, with games taking place at the Al Gharafa and Al Rayyan arenas.
Al Arabi enters this season as the defending champion, having won the last three consecutive editions, thus amassing a total of 11 general league titles. Historically, Al Rayyan leads the honor roll with 18 titles, followed by Qatar SC with seven. Al Sadd, Al Gharafa, Al Shamal, and the now-defunct El Jaish SC have each secured two titles, while Al Ahli captured its lone title in the 2000-01 season.
The league's opening phase begins on October 10, culminating with the ninth and final round scheduled for November 9, setting the stage for an exciting season of basketball in Qatar.
