Seoul: The top diplomats of South Korea and the United States have committed to maintaining close cooperation to tackle North Korea's nuclear issue and enhance peace on the Korean Peninsula, Seoul's foreign ministry announced Tuesday.

According to Qatar News Agency, South Korean Foreign Minister Cho Hyun and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio engaged in phone discussions and "agreed to continue close communication and cooperation between South Korea and the US for peace on the Korean Peninsula and the resolution of North Korea's nuclear issue while maintaining a solid combined defense posture."

The officials also concurred on working together to further strengthen bilateral relations by achieving "mutually beneficial" outcomes on several outstanding issues, including tariffs, an investment agreement, and security cooperation, as stated by the ministry.
