Japan’s Nikkei Index Stagnates Amid Fluctuating Market Dynamics

Japan: Japan's Nikkei index ended the trading session with minimal movement on Tuesday, having surrendered its earlier gains. The index was primarily affected by the rise in oil prices and bond yields, counterbalancing the recovery of specific stocks such as SoftBank Group, which rebounded from a previous sell-off.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Nikkei closed down by 0.01 percent at 63,484.10 points, despite initially rising by about one percent earlier in the session. Meanwhile, the broader Topix index experienced a decline, falling by 0.52 percent to 4,037.16 points. The chip sector, which had initially shown promise, saw a reversal in fortunes as Advantest shares fell by 2.96 percent and Tokyo Electron shares decreased by 0.55 percent.

SoftBank Group, which had faced a significant downturn in the previous session due to a sell-off in artificial intelligence-related stocks, saw a rebound with shares jumping by 7.54 percent. Memory chip manufacturer Kioxia also recorded an increase, rising by 2.29 percent.

Banking stocks faced declines, with Mitsubishi UFJ Financial Group dropping by 1.4 percent and Sumitomo Mitsui Financial Group by 2.67 percent. Sony Group shares also saw a decrease of 1.66 percent. Of the more than 1,500 stocks traded on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Prime Market, 51 percent recorded gains, while 44 percent fell, and 4 percent remained unchanged.
