Doha: The Qatar Football Association (QFA) has announced the launch of its elite referees' training camp in preparation for the new 2026-2027 football season. According to Qatar News Agency, the QFA stated that the camp is being held at the InterContinental Doha Hotel and will continue through August 18. This initiative is part of the intensive preparations for the upcoming season and aims to enhance the technical and physical readiness of referees to meet the demands of both domestic and international competitions. The camp includes a comprehensive programme that combines both theoretical and practical components. The morning sessions feature a series of technical lectures that cover various aspects of refereeing, along with reviews of incidents and situations that referees may face during matches. In the evenings, the referees are divided into groups to participate in a varied training programme that blends practical exercises with physical conditioning. One group conducts practical sessions at Lusail St adium, simulating match conditions, while another group focuses on physical training at the Al Ersal pitches, emphasizing fitness, speed, and endurance. The choice of Lusail Stadium, a key venue from the recent FIFA World Cup in Qatar, offers referees an essential opportunity to apply the technical knowledge gained during the morning lectures on the field and to improve their handling of different refereeing situations during matches. Hani Taleb Ballan, Chairman of the QFA Referees Committee, underscored the significance of this preparatory phase for Qatar's elite referees, labeling it as one of the most crucial stages of the football season. He highlighted the necessity of maximizing the benefits of the camp. "We aim to provide all necessary factors for the referees' success and create the conditions that allow them to gain the greatest possible benefit and deliver the highest standard of refereeing," Ballan stated. He also noted that the new season will introduce competitions such as QSL 2 and QSL 3, wh ich will increase the number of matches and competitiveness among clubs. This expansion requires extensive work and sustained effort to tackle the challenges of a lengthy season across all competitions. Ballan concluded by expressing his strong confidence in the referees and their ability to ensure a successful season.
