Baghdad - Yesterday, Tuesday, the European Union condemned the increasing attacks carried out by Israeli settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank during the ongoing events in the Gaza Strip, as the European Union’s official spokesman for foreign affairs, Peter Stano, described the situation as “settler terrorism.”
“The outbreak of settler terrorism in the West Bank has led to very high numbers of civilian casualties and forced Palestinian communities to leave their homes,” Stano said in a statement. “The situation could spiral out of control and cause untold suffering to local communities. Urgent measures are needed.” he added.
European Union foreign policy chief Josep Borrell on Tuesday also condemned Israeli settler attacks against the Palestinian people in the West Bank and expressed concern about the situation there.
The Gaza Strip has witnessed intense Israeli bombing since last October 7, after the Commander-in-Chief of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Palestinian Hamas movement, Muhammad al-Deif, announced the start of Operation “Al-Aqsa Flood” to put an end to “Israeli violations.”
The Hamas movement was able to capture a number of Israelis, including soldiers and officers, and return them to the Gaza Strip.
